Q: How could I prolong the finish of my log home?
A: We recommend your log home be washed twice a year, to keep dirt and dust off top of logs. We find dirt and dust holds moisture longer and also with the help of UV rays, can catalize the finish on the logs, whereby enabling moisture and/or rain to penetrate finish.
Q: When should I apply another coat of sealant to my log home?
A: Upon inspection from an authorized log home expert, he may recommend, due to his findings, the following: mildewed areas must be treated and re-coated which may include sealing a whole wall so finish will be even. Also UV rays have a tendency to affect finish, depending on depth of color. It is typical that logs exposed to the sun will degrade faster and need a maintenance coat. Further, by looking at overall sheen on logs, can determine millage and wear due to weather elements.
In addition to precision painting or Log Home finishes, we also work RESTORATION projects: wood replacement, stripping and refinishing, before applying the finest application of paint or stain.
Note: The Log and Cedar Shake sided homes shown here were full RESTORATION projects. Their finishes were severly degraded. Their wood surfaces were over-exposed to the elements and had black mildew growth.
